Extracted by steam distillation from the parts verdi (branches fogliacei, coni immaturi) of Cupressus sempervirens L. (cypress common, cypress Mediterranean, Italian cypress), evergreen tree of the Cupressacee simbolo of the paesaggio italiano and Mediterranean, native of the Asia Minor and widespread in the Mediterranean from millenni as alberatura funeraria, ornamental and frangivento. Simbolo of immortality and mediation among vivi and morti in the traditions greche, romane and etrusche. The phytochemical profile is dominated by α-pinene (40-60%), δ-3-carene (15-25%) and cedrol (5-15%), with camfene, limonene and cedrolo — sesquiterpenes and monoterpenes with documented activity venotonotnic. The δ-3-carene and the cedrol are the components with maggiore affinity for the sistema venous and lymphatic. In aromatherapy the cypress is the oil of choice for the problems circolatori venosi — varici, legs pesanti, emorroidi, edemi linfatic — as astringent and as natural deodorant. Has also properties antispasmodic for the cough and properties of restrition of the pori skin. Heart-to-top note resinous, fresh and boscous.
