Extracted by steam distillation from the berries dried of Schinus molle L. or of Schinus terebinthifolia Raddi (pepper rose of the Perù or of the Brazil), trees of the Anacardiacee (the stessa family of the mango and of the anacardio) originari of the South America, now naturalizzati in all the Mediterranean, Florida and Africa southern. The name 'pepper' is improprio botanicaly — the pepper rose not is imparentato with Piper nigrum — but derives dto the aspetto of the berries rosse used as spice. The phytochemical profile is dominated by α-phellandrene (20-40%), β-phellandrene, limonene and myrcene, with elemolo and caryophyllene. The presence of anacardacee implic a potenzial allergenic in people sensible to the family (anacardio, pistacchio, mango): prudenza in the applications topiche.
