Obtained for steam distillation from the gommoresina of Boswellia frereana Birdw. (frankincense frereana, maydi, yigaar), tree of the Burseracee endemic of the regions coastal and sub-coastal of the Somalia northern (Somaliland) and of Gibuti, where grows on the scarpate calcaree aride. The frereana is considered from molti esperti the quality more high-quality of frankincense in the world — the its resin to forma of 'artigli' or stalattiti is used traditionally in Somalia as mastice from masticare and fragrance of altissima quality. Si distingue from the other boswellia for the assenza of acidi boswellic (the molecules anti-inflammatory farmacologicaly more studiate in the other incensi), and is invece ricco in monoterpenes: α-pinene (65-75%), β-pinene and limonene. This composition the provides a fragrance more fresh, arioso and quasi fruity compared to the frankincense sacra (B. sacra) or to the carterii (B. carterii). In aromatherapy it is used as purifying environmental, antiseptic of the respiratory tract, anxiolytic light and as fragrance of meditation. Top-to-heart note fresh, resinous and ariosaly earthy.
