Extracted by steam distillation from the wood of Juniperus virginiana L. (cedarwood of the Virginia, cedarwood red oriental), conifera of the Cupressacee widely widespread in the North America oriental, from the Canada southern up to to the Florida. Nonostante the name commercial 'cedarwood', the cedarwood of the Virginia appartiene to the genus Juniperus (juniper) and not to Cedrus — a of the molte classifications populari fuorviant in the mercato of the essential oils. THE suoi coni blue-grigi, ricchi in essence, attirano the tordi migratori which ne diffondono the seeds. The phytochemical profile is dominated by cedrolo (18-30%), α-cedrene (25-35%) and β-cedrene, with tujopsene — sesquiterpenes with action insettifuga documented (the cedarwood of the Virginia is one of the repellent natural for moths and insects more efficaci). In aromatherapy it is used as tonic venous and lymphatic, deodorant corporeo, repellent for insects and moths, sedative light of the nervous system and astringent skin. The fragrance warm and dry the makes a component precious in the fragrances maschili boisées and chyprées. Base note warm, dry, woody and slightly fumosa.
